What a surprise! Wallace and Gromit were having a grand day out and popped in to visit at short notice. It was enough to send Trota into a hostess frenzy…what to make for them?
Wensleydale and cranberry pasta
No time to shop, of course, but resourceful as ever in the cartoon kitchen this unusual, easy, yet remarkably successful dish was created.
To reproduce it you will need 60g Wensleydale cheese, 2tbsp dried cranberries roughly chopped, a knob of butter and a generous sprinkle of freshly grated parmesan. Crumble the cheese and mix it with the butter and cranberries. Meanwhile cook your pasta (a medium size such as penne is ideal – about 80g) and drain when al dente, reserving 2tbsp cooking water. Put the pasta back in the pan and toss with the Wensleydale and cranberry mixture (adding the reserved cooking water) for another minute, until the cheese and butter have melted slightly and are coating the pasta nicely. Serve at once, sprinkled with parmesan.
Legendary cheese buffs Wallace and Gromit loved it – no need to go all the way to the moon this time either. Yes, we know, but don’t knock it ‘till you’ve tried it, as we sometimes say in the cartoon kitchen. If only Wendolene had been there…
